Diaper Cakes

Baby showers have always been an entertaining spectacle to me.  The decorations, the silly games, and the look on the expecting mother's face when she opens each gift, imaging what her baby will look like in them.  Tiny clothes and hats and little shoes!  (The shoes are my favorite.) What I love about diaper cakes is that they're functional, fun, and make a great centerpiece.  I've even had a few friends who refused to take them apart and use the diapers... they're still a decorative part of their nurseries.

Each diaper cake is unique.  I'm slowly building a collection of items to use as toppers: from porcelain statues and mini plush animals, to wooden carvings and toys.  And of course, really cute baby shoes.  Then I embellish these cakes with coordinating ribbon and handfuls of pretty silk flowers... a few of the flowers are even handmade.

Check out the gallery to see the different themes I've decorated the diaper cakes in.  The cakes can match the theme of the shower, the nursery theme, or just something the mother (or father) is really into.   The cake will come with a card listing the number of diapers used and which sizes (we've used the cakes as a game in some of the showers, where you guess the number of diapers used).
